Orthodontics For Children
It’s best if we see your child by age 7 to advise if orthodontic treatment is required. It is the ideal time for children to be assessed because their first permanent molars and incisors have usually come in by that time. In addition, cross-bites, crowding and other problems can be evaluated.
When orthodontic treatment is begun early, it’s possible for us to guide your child’s incoming permanent teeth. Early treatment can also regulate the width of the upper and lower dental arches, provide extra space for permanent teeth, avoid the need for permanent tooth extractions, reduce the likelihood of impacted permanent teeth, correct thumb-sucking in young children, and eliminate abnormal swallowing or speech problems. Because early treatment can simplify later treatment, it’s never too late for us to evaluate your child.
